History & Origins
An acoustic beginning. A lasting story.
Right TurnClyde began in 2014, when Clyde Callicott and Dwayne Lewis formed an acoustic duo at a bar in Irwin, Pennsylvania. The name came from a line in the Clint Eastwood film Every Which Way but Loose. Clyde created an orangutan logo that helped the duo stand out and draw bigger crowds.
The duo grew into a trio, then a full band. With support from Iron City Beer, The Right TurnClyde Experience became a multi-state touring cover band, bringing an upbeat mix of dance rock, classic rock, country, and soul to the stage. Sets featured songs by artists including the Eagles, John Mellencamp, U2, and Beck.
Along the way, the group shared stages with Ted Nugent and Black Oak Arkansas. Community was part of the story, too, including work with Lisa Hnath and Band Together Pittsburgh to support musicians and community engagement.
The Right TurnClyde Experience marked its 11th anniversary with a farewell show at Moondog’s in Blawnox, Pennsylvania, hosted by Ronny Moondog Esser. Now, Clyde is bringing the band back as Right TurnClyde Unplugged, returning to its acoustic roots and taking the music in a fresh direction.
Why I’m bringing it back
Right TurnClyde is back. Acoustic at the roots.
“Took a long detour. Decided to take the turn I missed the first time.
Same songs. Less wire. More wood. More truth.
If you heard us then, you haven’t heard us like this.”
Clyde Callicott
